We strive for optimal health by treating the entire person and not just the area causing pain

Chiropractic is a drug-free method of improving your health by helping the body’s nervous system work as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Gentle adjustments realign the complex skeletal system, rectifying imbalances in the body to relieve pain and increase mobility.

Misalignment can be caused by a number of factors, such as a poor standing or desk posture, incorrect lifting, sports injuries, falls or other accidents.

The primary cause of the problem may also be emotional – stress, anxiety, bereavement or other emotive factors may create a misalignment that results in headaches, neck, shoulder pain or other physical symptom.

A third source of problems is chemicals. A poor diet, smoking and drinking are known causes of an unhealthy lifestyle that can affect the body and increase the likelihood of ill health.

Whether physical, emotional or chemical, we will work with you to help alleviate the specific pain you are feeling, but also understand where the problem originates, to offer advice on how to avoid a recurrence in the future.

The McTimoney Method

Our McTimoney chiropractors strive for optimal health by treating the entire person and not just the area that pains you.

They are trained to correct misalignments using quick, gentle and accurate adjustments which ensure you experience maximum comfort.

McTimoney chiropractic has helped thousands of people for over 50 years and around 150,000 new patients consult a McTimoney Chiropractor each year.

Over 8000 people are cared for by McTimoney Chiropractors each working day.

What to expect

Your initial consultation and treatment will primarily be an assessment of your general health, previous conditions and existing symptoms.

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire before we ask specific questions to give them a clear understanding of your current condition.

All visits to us are treated in the strictest confidence and with the utmost discretion.

We will then conduct appropriate neurological and orthopaedic examinations to locate the problem, during which time your chiropractor will make adjustments using the light techniques associated with the McTimoney technique.

If at any point we discover or suspect a condition that requires medical intervention, they will refer you to your GP or relevant medical professional for further consultation.

Your first visit will last up to 1 hour. During this time, we will:

  • Take a full case history, assessing your general health, previous conditions, and existing symptoms

  • Ask your permission to conduct a thorough physical examinations (this will include neurological and orthopaedic tests, if necessary)

  • Make adjustments using the light, dextrous techniques associated with the McTimoney technique

  • Provide a report of findings, explaining the assessment to help you understand why you are experiencing specific symptoms

Where necessary, a plan of care will be recommended. Your response to chiropractic and your symptoms will be reviewed at each appointment to ensure chiropractic care is meeting your needs.

The chiropractor will also offer post-treatment self care advice following your adjustments.

In some instances, your chiropractor may need to ask you to remove some clothing, but many visits do not require this. Please inform us if you feel uncomfortable about undressing.

What To Expect From The Adjustments

Due to the speed and specificity of McTimoney adjustments your chiropractic care is often very comfortable to receive.  You may experience immediate improvements and many patients immediately report feeling “freer” and “balanced”.  For the first 48 hours after the first couple of appointments, it is also normal to experience:

  • Slightly aggravated symptoms

  • A headache

  • Feel overly tired

  • Or generally ache all over

These are all very normal reactions and indicate that your body is responding to the adjustments and making the necessary changes towards becoming pain free and functioning well again.

Please note, the McTimoney method of chiropractic is a more gentle technique, still delivering very effective results, but generally does not include the audible ‘clicks and crunches’ that is sometimes associated with a (diversified) chiropractic treatment.
